Ramen Like It's 1999!

Are you a spring cleaner?

I have great intentions of doing this every year. Purging, organizing, de-cobwebbing, washing windows inside and out. I usually get through a room or two and give up.

The sheer amount of STUFF just puts me in a funk. It’s hard to clean when you’re depressed by the vast array of crap you need to clean.

But there is one room where I do constant spring cleaning: the kitchen. I’m obsessed with keeping up with my kitchen. I clean out my fridge and cabinets once a week. I make notes of what’s nearing a due date and check out my trusty SuperCooks website to see what I can make with it.

Now, I’m not perfect. An errant fuzzy eggplant or stinky spinach has escaped my grasp in my crisper drawer.

But I have no explanation for this.

Everyone in my house denies culpability. We moved here in 2008. I’m 99.9% sure that the cabinets were empty when we moved in. I recall giving them a good scrubdown.

And yet. 1999.

Eeeew! And I felt bad when I discovered a package of cornbread mix from 2007 last year.

I hope you're not planning to eat those ;)

This is super funny! I am always about my in-laws and the packages dating between 2005-2009, but last time I saw something with 1996 date :)!

The sad part is that Ramen easily has a 12 year shelf-life.

Ahhhh! I die, lady. I just die. That's always the most exciting part about donating to the food shelf is making sure that we don't give them anything that has already gone.

p.s. On Sunday, you'll have to be real with me and tell me how my roots really look. Either I'm legit, or I'm surrounded by people who are full of shit. With girlfriends sometimes, it's hard to tell :)

The fat was probably rancid - but I bet it looked fine if you opened it.

When I lived with my parents, I once cleaned the pantry and found a ten year old can of cranberry sauce. This was curious because we moved into the house two years prior meaning we'd moved 8 year old cranberry sauce!

It's the fact that it was transported that really bothers/concerns me.

Tenaciously: If you promise not to mention my roots, I'll be brutally honest about yours. I have a wedding to attend next weekend and must hold off any coloring until just before to maximize picture shine.

Oh my gosh, 1999! I can't believe it!

My fridge and freezer are perpetually empty so I rarely have issues with expiration dates. This means are food, what little we have, is always fresh. But this also means we are constantly hungry and looking for something to eat...
